‘Framus’ Quotes at Taste of Tzaneen

'LEKKER' LOCAL POP&ROCK AT TASTE OF TZANEEN

Saturday night, 4 November, at Taste of Tzaneen Fest, is going to be local and loud. If your feet start tapping with the ambition to dance, no-one will blame you. Framus Quotes is the performance by three local musos: Jansen van der Walt (guitar and vocals), Mario Santa Rita (bass and vocals) and Werner Bredenhahnn (a wizard on any set of drums).

Fairview chef cooks up a prize!

Brenda Lubbe-Venter (23) used to eagerly help her mom in the kitchen as little girl. On the other side of the window between the kitchen and the veranda, she would set up her dolls in a row to watch the activity in the kitchen. This was her first audience – and a prophetic one, as she has lived to sea that dream come true.

At the recent Queen of the Kitchen competition at Klein Kariba near Bela Bela, she emerged third overall and the winner in the entrepreneur section. She and her assistant, Mr George Venter, also were awarded the prize for the most helpful team.

Goodbye September...Hullo October!

Ann Potgieter

(Ann is a resident of Modjadjiskloof. Has been in a wheelchair all her life, but the fact that she cannot walk has never stopped her from living a full, adventurous life – and to give life as far as she goes, in whatever way she can through her own special gifts and a generous portion of love.

The month in which spring is born, is a beautiful one which whispers about life, youth and joy. Youth not only meaning the young ones, but an evergreen personality, bursting with warmth and zeal – which shouts: I’m forever young!

Spring…was here and gone, but sure delighted everyone!

The month that introduces Spring was celebrated joyously in our neck of the woods. The Magoebaskloof and Haenertsburg Spring Festival was attended, as usual, by not only locals, but also city dwellers who make their way here to relish in the bountiful beauty of blossoming azaleas, cherry trees and other seasonal flowers. The festival was from Saturday, 23 September at 09:00 till Sunday, 1 October at 16:00.

Eight is great! 8 ALL SORTS ACTIVITIES IN FRANSCHOEK

Many people drive all the way to Franschhoek and stick to the main drag of the main road. Here are eight things to do that might help to make the best of a visit to this splendid stopover.

1. Beer and pub fare fair enough!

The Franschhoek Station Pub and Grill is a local favourite. Situated in a rustic stone train station makes for a memorable visit. Weekends bring live music and country cheer.

How to drive safely when the roads are wet, wet, wet!

Spring is upon us and summer is approaching. With summer, in the sub-tropical and tropical Lowveld and bushveld, come the rains (said in faith!)

Even a little bit of rain, can make a slippery surface of the combination of dust and water. These conditions are probably more dangerous than a heavy downpour. Here are a few valuable tips on driving in wet conditions.

Mrs POLOKWANE stands up to STOP trafficking

What sometimes is the theme in an excellent action movie, has become a tragic reality for many: in the movie Taken, Liam Neeson's character has a teenage daughter who is abducted and faces becoming another statistic on the human trafficking scene.

Human trafficking, as barbaric and inhumane as it is, happens under our noses. While most people obliviously continue with their feverishly busy lives, thousands of fellow human beings, of any gender and age, find themselves thrown to the sickos of society.

Malaria – more about this menace

Malaria is known to be quite a killer throughout Africa. South Africa also has its areas where malaria is a threat. For residents in rural areas, especially children or pregnant women, the threat is very real and often fatal.

Victims bitten (sucked?) by a malaria-carrying mosquito, who contract malaria and fall ill, can survive if medically treated. In many of these areas, precautions aren't taken as it is part of their everyday lives. Some believe they become naturally immune.
