Ons glo alle mense het ’n sterk behoefte aan aanvaarding, liefde en om te behoort en dat dit in goeie verhoudings gevind kan word – soos in familie en vriendskappe. Christus is ons beste voorbeeld van iemand wat alle mense so behandel het. Gesinne kom in alle vorme voor en ons glo die familie is ook kerk en in vennootskap met die gemeente. Ons wil juis vir alle soorte mense, en in watter gesin situasie ook al, met spontane, gasvrye liefde ’n familie wees.
Die “familie- en vriend-ding” is daarom die DNA van al ons aktiwiteite en bedienings – ons eredienste, familiefeeste waar ons lekker kuier, bedienings vir kinders, jeug en seniors, kleingroepe waar mense moet tuiskom, versorging van siekes en mense in nood ens.

Joshua Generation Church is a vibrant and diverse multisite church that meets across Southern Africa. Modelled after the early church in the book of Acts, we seek to live out authentic Christianity (Acts 2:42-47) as a family of believers, devoted to laying down our lives for God and for one another. Our vision is that Joshua Generation Church will become a blueprint for other churches in South Africa, and around the world.
Joshua Generation Church began in January 1999, when Andrew and Emma Selley were sent from The Storehouse Church in Port Elizabeth to start a church in Table View, Cape Town. Beginning with just four people in a lounge, we quickly grew as God added to our number. In time, we planted other congregations, while God also added whole churches to us. We now partner with many churches around the globe as part of an apostolic movement known as Four12.

When considering the question of who it is that God has called us to be in this place and at this time, we are reminded of Featherbed Bay in our Knysna estuary, a haven for storm-tossed sailors in the early history of Knysna. We believe that God is calling us to grow our church into a haven, where all people can find a safe harbour in which to recover from our often turbulent lives. As a harbour though, it is also a place from where we can reach out to others, to serve them.
We aim to bring all people into a loving, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and into maturity as disciples; united in worship, fellowship and service, faithful to God’s Word.

Hello there! We pastor this church family of about 250 in Somerset West with Jaco and Leigh Janse van Rensburg. Just like a regular family, we aren’t perfect but know that we serve a perfect God who loves His children and wants our community to experience the joy of being in a family that’s fueled by the love of Christ. We are currently doing online services that go live at 09h00 on a Sunday morning on our Shofar Somerset-West youtube page. Small groups also meet online during the week.
